Saturday. I leave on Saturday. Three weeks. Milan (just to sleep) then Cinque Terre, the hill towns, lots of wine. Week two, Praiano on the Amalfi Coast, where my friend Deb will join me (so glad I won't have to drink alone, Deb!), then week three to Rome to meet my man. Then Florence, then Venice.
I don't know what my internet situation will be. I am not sure how much blogging the ol' Decorno will manage. I am sure you will hardly notice I am gone.
But I have packed already. (Shocking, because I love to procrastinate.) And it all fits in a carry on. So, now I am just sitting here thinking, "Well, hell, why don't I fly out tomorrow?"
Yeah. Why don't I?

Wow! Congrats to you for being packed already and for getting everything into a carry-on. You'll be so glad that it's easy to get around. Just don't forget to pack an extra duffel bag for all those souvenirs!
You will have the experience of a lifetime. Enjoy and if you find yourself in Sorrento, have dinner at Caruso. The tomato soup will make you glad you're alive.
Oh I am green with envy. Have a wonderful time! And don't you worry about us. We'll be here when you get back!
Have a great time! And forget about blogging for a while. Nikki's right, we'll still be here when you get home.
I'm so excited for you! Have a wonderful time!
Go have the time of your life Decs. You'll be missed. We'll survive....gudgingly thinking of you sunning your ass on the beaches of the Mediteranean, drinking limoncello....have one for us:)
be off with yourself.
Can you tell I am jealous.
Not that I don't enjoy the hell out of your blog but I hope you are able to completely disconnect from the internets. Go on, just give yourself over to vacationing. That would give me a vicarious thrill and we all know, it's alllllll about me!
you suck.
FUN! Nothing like a trip to get you recharged and inspired. Jealous!! Wish I could squeeze in that carry on! Holy good packing woman!
jealous bitter hatred.
HI. I love your blog, although I am very jealous! Italy is my favourite destination and unfortunately i missed out on seeing Cinque Terre. Have a grat trip.
I can't get over the fact that you only have a carry-on's worth of stuff... You must teach me your ways.
SO jealous. 3 weeks in Italy will fix whatever ails you.
There are sales in Rome in late July, so don't forget an extra bag!
I just came back from visiting most of those places in May. Have a wonderful time although I'm sure it's impossible not to! Be sure to check out all the handmade paper shops in Amalfi, they have some beautiful things and its a great place to get souvenirs! Also, get some sandals made for you, it's a great indulgence.
You will love every step of the way - I am sure! Great selection of places to visit: Cinque Terre is very laid back so it's a great place to start and the cities are amazingly beautiful, of course. While in CT - do the hike between towns - the views will take your breath away - impossibly gorgeous!
Please share all about Amalfi - I will be visiting Praiano for the 1st time next month and would love your feedback.
PS - After being to Italy a few times, my husband and I still can't get enough!
Enjoy!
Anastasia
amazing!
i agree with everyone else...disconnect and enjoy italy!
Pictures upon return, please. What a wonderful opportunity!
If you have time, visit Levanto. It's located just above Monterosso in the Cinque Terre. Less touristy than the towns in the CT. It's like the secret 6th town of that region
Do go to JK Place on Capri for a drink! You just walk up from the boat dock. GREEN WITH ENVY

Sounds like a divine plan! I live on Monte Argentario, a fabulous Tuscan seaside island which is best known for the lux hotel and town called Porto Ercole and having been used during filming for the last 007. If you feel like stopping in for a swim and a glass of red wine on your way down the coast we'd love to have you! I dig your blog like crazy, so it's the least I could do! Enjoy!
amazing trip, you're going to have the time of your life!
Disconnect completely. Go there! Be there. We will still be here and happy to share in your recap when you return.
I'm green with envy and very impressed with your minimalist packing.
We'll be waiting when you get back! Just be sure to come back with some great photos!
You're already all packed and you're not leaving until Saturday? I'm leaving for NY tomorrow and I haven't even begun. Bravo for fitting everything into a carry on too - that's the only way to travel! Your itinerary sounds fabulous.
Have such a great time! Can't wait for your post trip recap!! Safe travels!
trying not to be jealous! I was just daydreaming this morning of italy... have a fabulous time! When in Florence, YOU HAVE TO GO TO: the oil shoppe check out: http://oilshoppe.blogspot.com
I found it when I was living in Florence for school! Seriously THE BEST sandwhich you will ever have!! Its in a little off the beaten path in a neighborhood in Florence! Buon Apetito!
This will be the best weeks of your life. On top of all of its other attractions, in Italy, wine is cheaper than soada.
I am so happy you decided to go to Cinque terre, you will not regret it. I loved Vernazza- stay there if you get the chance:-)
Have a nice trip- from Norway;-)
You're gonna love Italy! You wont be able to sleep much in Milan surrounded by the incredible fashion! And the Amalfi coast... omg... you will not want to leave! Capri is still my favorite place! Rome, Florence, Venice... its all so wonderful! I hope you have the time of your life!
I second "stay in Vernazza" , but not the resto/hotel
in the port. The church bell rings every half hour, 50 meters from your window -ALL NIGHT ! Stay up in town, otherwise you will be walking the Via Dell Amore all night ! Vernazza is still the best.
I hate you.
Three weeks in Italy will cure anything. Start drinking prosecco in Venice as early in the day as possible.
(I'll notice you're gone. Read you daily.)
I think you left the stove on.
you are going to have the best time. please update us on your favorite experiences when there (hub and I are planning a trip in 2010)
wait a second! are you eloping?!?!?
When you go to Amalfi: please don´t forget to visit the beautiful garden of "Villa Cimbrone" in Ravello. Enjoy the magnificent view down to the blue sea (it´s really blue like on your Photographs). Another recommendation for your trip to Italy: Drink your espresso always "al banca" like the Italiens and don´t take a seat. It´s much cheaper. My other recommendation was to try some wonderful pastries at "Andrea Pansa" at Amalfi market place (I wrote about it before. Sorry I repeat myself but I was so impressed by it when my husband and me visited Amalfi coast.)
Iris
My bet is you will LOVE the art and the light in Florence and the cafe life in Rome the best, ok, maybe the Amalfi coast too, the lemons are HUGE! ENJOY!
First of all...I'm sooooo jealous...sounds like an amazing trip! Second of all...Good, now maybe Between Naps on the Porch will move into the 12th place in Blog Rankings...LOL. :-)

JEALOUS.
I was in Cinque Terre, Florence, and Tuscany (Lucca and Vorno) this time last year.
Enjoy!
I think it'll be very hot when you get there so wear sunscreen and make sure your hotel has decent air conditioning. I had gelato every day and I still wish I had more :)
I'm not a big fan of urban decay so I actually enjoyed the enchanting towns of San Gimignano and Siena more than Florence when I was in Tuscany. Do buy a leather bag on the streets of Florence, they're cheap (around 70 euros) and relatively well made.
Lucky Bitch! So jealous, have fun!
Forget the internet. Bask in the beauty. Serenity!
Last time I was there....no internet...no cell phones.
If we get to go to heaven....this is it for we decorators.
buy every single thing you see that you can afford....that you love. It won't be there again.
don't be indecisive. No no no!!!
And have a ball!!!
It will change your world view forever.....and improve you as a person!
Best wishes! You are a lucky duck!!
If you can..take the hydrofoil to Capri. then just sit there and look. Hope you have a photographic memory!
That is IT.

OH ps! Thank you Paisley!
the sandals in Positano are unparalled on earth. buy all that you can afford! they are made for your foot. You will take them with you to the nursing home. (even if you are 20 now)!!
60 years from now. And I am not kidding. And the nicest people......5th generation sandal makers. and they are to die over Sandals.. any of them....... buy a bunch of 8 & 9 great pairs ....you could probably pay for your trip!!
I did!! 18 years agp! I swear!
Enjoy!
Penny
have a wonderful time... relax and enjoy...you surely deserve it. x pam
I agree with the comment to buy whatever you can afford - I'm not a materially oriented person, but Italy is one of those places you save all your indulgences for - you'll treasure any little pieces of it you bring home. Do hike the Via Dell Amore - you'll never forget it! I love Italy - and the people are more beautiful than the traditional sights. Have a wonderful time!
Eat. Drink. Be merry. Forget about us until you get back, then make us terribly, incredibly, utterly jealous with all the pictures you took of the times you were having. The mere memory of the Amalfi coast takes my breath away. Pack an extra bag for all the stuff you will bring back. You WILL bring stuff back.
I just got home Sunday from Rome and the Amalfi Coast. Beautiful. Have such a lovely time.
How in the world did you pack for three weeks using a carry on? Could you be very specific?
Love your blog...really love it.
